Our first two woman show brings together a contrasting exhibition by Sarah Ollerenshaw and Sally Firino. Sally's work uses a single line to portray a place or a moment in time leaving space for the viewer to fill with their imagination, where as Sarah's powerful images encourage the mind to think about passion, sacrifice and love. 2009 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition
The 2009 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition will open to the public on Thursday 12 November 2009 at 10 am and run until Sunday 22 November at the Mall Galleries in The Mall, London SW1. As usual, the exhibition will comprise works independently selected by six prominent figures from different areas of the art world - two artists, two collectors and two critics. Each selector is asked to include both invited artists and works from the open submission. Each selector's section is hung separately to emphasise its distinctive identity and the exhibition provides an unusual opportunity to see works by lesser-known artists hung alongside contributions from internationally recognised names. Visit Sarum on the Salisbury Art Trail!

Local artists, Sally Firino, Erica Hemming and Vivien Stratton, will be exhibiting their work at Sarum College as part of the biennial Salisbury Art Trail, during which artists living and working in Salisbury and South Wiltshire open their homes and studios to the public and exhibit their work in public spaces and arts venues.
The three will be together at Sarum College for a Meet the Artists evening on Monday 12 October from 5.30 to 7pm. This event is free and open to the public.
The exhibition is free and open to the public from 9am to 5pm, 12 to 16 October and from 10am to 4pm on 17 and 18 October.

About the artists

Sally Firino

My use of line is joyous and amusing, breathing life into the subject with an unusual combination of delicacy and strength. I use a single line to record an impression of a place or a moment. I leave room for the viewer to interpret, to explore and to gain a sense of space and movement, distance and peace. For the art trail, alongside my line drawings I will also be exhibiting some of my acrylic paintings in the series 'Salisbury Love'.

Erica Hemming
My work for the art trail is inspired by unexpected or dramatic moments seen in the landscape. Much of my work is precisely rendered, so I have tried to abstract my impressions to concentrate on colour, patterns/shapes and atmosphere.

Vivien Stratton

My painting style has changed from still life and landscape work to abstracts. I find that I enjoy the painting process more when I am reacting to the marks I have already made and working towards an unknown end rather than responding directly to a view or an arrangement in front of me. I also love putting the colours together and watching the results appear in front of me. When they are 'finished' I find that people will interpret them in many different ways and see things in them that are entirely personal to them. This is why I only number my paintings rather than giving them a formal title.
